Vinogradov Institute of Geochemistry

Кузьмин М.И.
Adviser of the RAS,
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Мichael I. Kuzmin

Vinogradov Institute of Geochemistry was founded in 1957 as a part of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Its establishment was connected with the necessity to coordinate geological-geochemical researches and analytical research methods of geological objects of Siberia. It is due to the combined efforts of the organizers – academicians Alexander P. Vinogradov and Lev V. Tauson – that a research team composed of the best graduates from Moscow, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk was formed. The atmosphere of solidarity, democracy and cohesion was created in the Institute from the very beginning. The remarkable relationships were due to the efforts of directors: Academician Lev V. Tauson, heading IGC from 1961 to 1988 and later Academician Michael I. Kuzmin, who has been directing the establishment since 1989 up to May 2012 and a present director Corresponding-Member of RAS Vladislav S. Shatsky.
